St. Clare Preschool & Daycare provides age-based classrooms in order for all children to have developmentally appropriate opportunities for learning and play. As children grow, they graduate to the next class, provided they meet minimum developmental requirements and there is space available in the next room.

Classrooms are divided as follows:

  • Infants: 6 weeks to 18 months.
To move to the next class, children must be walking, taking only one nap per day, and be close to 18 months of age.
  • Toddlers: 18 months to 2.5 years.
Children graduate after they are 2.5 years old and as soon as space is available in the Trainer room.
  • Trainers: 2.5 to 3.5 years.
Moving up from the Trainer Room requires that children be at least 3 years old and potty-trained, and that their social and developmental skills are appropriate for the Preschool class. Children are generally moved up when the school year starts in September. However, if they meet the requirements during the year, they are moved up as space allows.
  • Preschool: 3 to 4 years.
Children are moved up if they are 4 years old at the start of the school year in September. During the year when a child turns 4, they are moved up as space allows. If two or more children are old enough to move up to the next class, priority is established based on length of time in their current class, age, schedule, and social and developmental readiness.
  • Pre-K: 4 to 6 years.
Children stay in this class until they are ready to leave for Kindergarten.
